This couple converted $ 10,000 into a clothing activity of $ 800,000

Sadie Beaudet and Jeremy Roberts stopped working and the Tradlands clothing line started with $ 10,000.
They distinguish their success to give up everything to build the company.

For entrepreneurs who want to watch on their own initiative, success can be as simple as an idea and willingness to sacrifice. At least it was for Sadie Beaudet (33) and Jeremy Roberts (35).

The concept was simple: Dress for women made for men. "I find the way women's clothes fit, but I found the patterns and print of men's clothes fun," says Beaudet.

It was the beginning of Tradlands, the man's clothing-inspired clothing company.

In 2011, the couple left their work in San Francisco. Beaudet was employed as office manager, Roberts as a photo book. Both were excited about a change. "We wanted to think of something we could and do together and we decided to start a business," said Beaudet.

But Beaudet and Roberts had only $ 10,000 to start. "We knew we had to start, which means we had to cut all the expenses," Roberts said.

The couple, when engaged, sell lots of their possessions, including their car, so they can move to Maine to live largely with Beaudet's brother.

They started a website selling a few buttons in a few materials and colors. In the first year, according to the Beaudet, they earned $ 40,000 in income. Looking back, "I was very touched, but we were really committed to doing this thing," she added.

The same can be said for their relationship: In 2014 they bound the knot in a small ceremony at Beaudet's parents house (they have a J. Crew shift dress of the sales line.) From that start, the future begins to look brighter.

A loyal customer base followed and the company grew 100 percent to 150 percent last year, according to Beaudet. Eventually they move back to California and now they serve Tradlands, which is almost exclusively online, from home (or wherever they have chosen).

Although the line has been expanded with t-shirts, pants and short-haired pants, "our bread and butter are our button-up shirts," says Beaudet. She predicts that the company will sell $ 800,000 by the end of the year.

Since then, they have bought a car and hired a few full-time employees to help with the brand - two milestones that are not lost to the couple who have recently had nothing.

And according to Beaudet and Roberts, this was the key to their success.

"No backup plan has given us the fire to make it work," said Beaudet.
